Maria Sharapova Wimbledon Fashion Furore 2008

June 26th, 2008

Maria Sharapova turning heads on court with her choice of outfit - and her first round victory - she’s also taking her star style off court too.

The 21-year old Wimbledon star - reported this week to be the world’s wealthiest sportswoman, raking a massive £12million per year from her off court earnings alone - has become Sony Ericsson’s first ever brand ambassador.

The deal - accompanied reportedly by a seven-figure sum - is set to last four years, during which the tennis star will design a number of collections for the company.

Timed perfectly with the annual Wimbledon fashion furore, the first range of accessories was unveiled in a catwalk show with three-times Grand Slam winner Sharapova as model.

“Working on this collection was an opportunity that I could not turn down,” she said at the unveiling. “Sony Ericsson helped me create a collection of mobile phone accessories that I know people will use. And I wanted to add my touch to each item. People want style, fashion and glamour, and with this collection I know that they’ll have it.”

Among the collection, worked in silver, pale pink and grey, there’s the requisite mobile phone gizmos: a holder to attach phone to handbags; an armband for sportswear - as well as a clasp purse and pink credit card holder.

At a statuesque 6′2″, with blonde hair and model physique, it’s no wonder that Sharapova has earned catwalk kudos. Let’s just hope for her sake that her on-court credentials match up.

Lyrics of Strings Latest Song (Koi Aane Wala Hai)

dhadkan, keh rahi hai…. yahaan koi aane wala hai
sawan, keh raha hai…. badal koi chaane waala hai
mann mera …paagal dhoondhta hai tujhe ghabra ke!

keh rahi hai, sahil koi aane waala hai..
koyal… keh rahi hai… saathi koi gaane waala hai!
ek naya aasmaa mil gaya hai humein tujhko paake!
hooooo………..

aaj merajahaan, tum hi tum ho
ab meri daastan tum hi tum ho
tum yahaan tum wahaan jaane jaana
jau main ab jahaan.. tum hi tum ho
mil gaya …raasta, aisa phoolo bhara chalte chalte

dhadkan, keh rahi hai…. yahaan Koi aane Wala hai
sawan, keh raha hai…. badal koi chaane waala hai
Mann mera …paagal dhoondhta hai tujhe ghabra ke!

hooooo……….

Shilpa Shetty celebrates her Birthday

June 8th, 2008

Shilpa Shetty, born in Tamil Nadu on June 8, 1975 is one of Bollywood’s glamorous actresses. She was first noticed in 1993 when she starred in a supporting actress role opposite actor Shah Rukh Khan in the hit film ‘Baazigar’. She was in controversies when she was kissed by Richard Gere at an AIDS awareness function.

Shilpa Shetty, the gorgeous South India-born actress of Bollywood who knows how to remain in the public eye through the media, has her birthday on 8th June.

A balanced diet, a strict fitness regime and regular yoga make Bollywood actress Shilpa Shetty’s skin glow and help her remain fit and glamorous as she turns 33.

Shilpa, who celebrates her birthday on Sunday (June Cool, looked svelte in a simple coral-coloured top paired with jeans at an event in New Delhi (photographed left).

“Yoga keeps my mind, body and soul fit,” Shilpa said. “I have a neck problem and suffered from chronic spondylitis. So I started practising yoga. I took professional training and it really benefits,” she added.

“I don’t believe in starving myself to remain thin. I eat well, work out and practise yoga to remain healthy. But that doesn’t mean I eat butter chicken and naan (bread) every day. If you want to get peace for the mind, body and soul, yoga is the only answer,” she said.

She is not planning a big bash for her birthday. “I would just be spending my birthday with my family in Dubai,” Shilpa told IANS.

Last year a special event was organised at the International Indian Film Academy (IIFA) awards function in Yorkshire to celebrate Shilpa’s birthday. Several film personalities attended the same.

This year the actress has planned to skip the IIFA, which is on in Bangkok now. “No IIFA this year,” she said. Although last year she was recognised at the event with an IIFA special award for Global Impact, this year Shilpa has not been nominated in any category.

Shilpa, who has contributed 15 years of her life to the Indian film industry starting with “Baazigar” (1993), was here to launch her own instructional video based on yoga titled “Shilpa’s Yoga”.

She not only features in the video, which was released internationally in English last year, but has also produced it.

“This is not a money-making thing for me. It is purely out of passion that I have done this video. I had not thought of releasing it in India, but it has been a great experience. It was tough to dub it in Hindi though,” she quipped.

On the production front, Shilpa has planned a big budget action flick under her banner S2 Global Productions. She would also be acting in the film.

“I do yoga and also work out at the gym for a fit look in the film,” she said.

Shilpa hit the jackpot after winning British television reality show “Celebrity Big Brother 2007″ and became a big name. Her emoting in films like “Phir Milenge” (2004), “Dus” (2005), “Apne” (2007) and “Metro” (2007) also fetched her acclaim.

“I am happy that both ‘Apne’ and ‘Life…In A Metro’ were well received by the audience. November onwards, the audience would see a lot of me,” she said.
